As a result of the changes announced in the location type, the residential units available in Lisbon, Porto, and the Algarve will not qualify for the Golden Visa. This change is to encourage foreign investment in rural area of the country.

Investors wanting to invest in the popular region of the Lisbon, Porto, or the Algarve will need to invest and apply for residency in this month itself.

Financial Changes:

As a result of the changes announced, qualifying threshold for real estate investment remains unchanged, however the investment funds which are directly tracked by Portuguese government and resulted for more than 9% of applications submitted last year will increase the qualifying investment from Euro 350,000 to Euro 500,000, leveling it with the higher real estate investment amount.
